How Much Green Coffee Bean Extract Is Enough?

By Donnie Dellenbaugh

For many people, having a cup of coffee in the morning is a way to jumpstart their day, but did you know that there is a type of coffee that can also help you lose weight? If you take coffee beans that have not been roasted, what you get is green coffee beans. Green coffee bean extract has received much popularity as a weight-loss supplement after it was mentioned by Dr. Oz in his show.

The secret to the powers of green coffee bean extract is a substance known as chlorogenic acid. While the roasting process used in coffee beans takes out its bitter taste, it also causes the chlorogenic acid to be reduced significantly, if not completely destroyed. There have been quite a number of scientific tests conducted on green coffee and all of them caused reduction of fat and body weight.

If you will observe the type of supplements being sold on the market today, a significant number are made from green coffee bean extract. Through the powers of chlorogenic acid, it is possible to keep glucose absorption to a minimum and this means less fat absorption as well. It is important to look for a supplement that contains GCA (green coffee antioxidant) or the brand name Svetol.

The study conducted by Dr. Oz on green coffee extract made use of people who took supplements containing at least 45% chlorogenic acid. It is not known whether the efficacy would be the same if something below 45% is to be used. Dosage can be anywhere from 200mg to 800mg. As for the Dr. Oz study, a dosage of 400mg was used and it was taken for a total of 3 times a day.

Since there are many green coffee extract supplements being sold out there, one thing you should look at carefully is the ingredients list. Make sure that it does not contain any kind of fillers or binders. If a product does not have any ingredients list, you'd best stay away from it. If by any chance you find any unfamiliar ingredient, don't hesitate to contact the manufacturer to get clarifications about it.

To be on the safe side, it would be ideal to buy products that come from a well-known manufacturer. A good indicator would be the number of years they have been in the business and the feedback their products get. Of course you can always jot down several brands and then make an evaluation of each one based on factors such as features, price, and consumer feedback.

When used properly, supplements made from green coffee bean extract are generally safe and do not cause any negative side effects. But just like any other product, using it beyond the intended dosage may be detrimental to your health, especially if you are allergic to caffeine. Also, keep in mind that weight-loss supplements such as this are not recommended for pregnant women.

Another thing to remember before you buy any green coffee bean extract is that there is still no substitute to having a balanced diet and proper exercise whenever you want to achieve ideal weight reduction. Diet supplements like this can indeed work, and you would be able to get results faster if you are consuming less calories than the amount you are burning when you exercise.
